Otto-von-Guericke University (Magdeburg, Germany)

Joint projects: Double Diploma program

Double Diploma program between National Technical University of Ukraine “Kyiv Polytechnic Institute” and Otto-von-Guericke University (OvGU) is run through the Joint Department of Mechanical Engineering. The history of the Joint Department starts from in 2002, when it was founded as an international institution to improve training of specialists for the needs of engineering and metallurgical industrial enterprises of Ukraine and their partners in EU. From Ukrainian side there are three participants of the program: NTUU “KPI” Welding Faculty, Physical Engineering Faculty and Mechanical Engineering Institute. The Institute of Material Science and Welding of the Otto-von-Guericke University represents the German side of the agreement.

The Institute provides training in a field of material science, technologies and equipment for material production and treatment, technologies and equipment for welding and related processes, including beam treatment of materials. Research works in the Institute have their purpose to develop and improve processes and methods of obtaining solid joints of modern metallic materials. They also study the autocracking in welded joints. Together with studying of traditional welding, brazing and soldering processes the Institute works with hybrid beam-arc technologies thus opening new possibilities in material joining. Modern trends to obtaining high-level reliability of welded joints makes it necessary to widely use computer simulation methods in teaching process and research work. Research works in the field of inventing and improving of technologies of joining materials with limited weldability are carried on in the Institute. These works are of great importance for automotive industry, power engineering, chemical, medical and microsystem industries.

In a field of study “Welding” the Joint Department runs teaching course for the Master of Sciences degree. It also supports international research programs within “Welding and Related Processes and technologies” speciality.

Federal University of Uberlandia (Uberlandia, Brazil)

Joint projects: Double Diploma program, staff exchange

Double Diploma program between National Technical University of Ukraine “Kyiv Polytechnic Institute” and Federal University of Uberlandia (UFU) was started in 2007. Ukrainian participant of the program is NTUU “KPI” Welding Faculty, Brazilian side is represented by UFU Faculty of Mechanical Engineering ( FEMEC).

UFU Faculty of Mechanical Engineering is well-known in Brazil by its welding laboratory Laprosolda which is providing a great research work in the field of control of welding processes and metal transfer study. A postgraduate course in welding is also run on the laboratory basis.

Currently our lecturer, V. Ponomarev, is working as a visiting professor in Brazil.

Corporación Mexicana de Investigación en Materiales (Saltillo, Mexico)

Joint projects: joint research

Corporación Mexicana de Investigación en Materiales (COMIMSA) was founded in 1991 as a research centre of CONACYT system. Currently it runs post-graduate study and research programs in mechanical engineering, including welding technology.
At the moment the terms of Welding Faculty of NTUU “KPI” – COMIMSA research and student exchange agreement are under discussion.

College of Dunaújváros (Dunaújváros, Hungary)
