The results of analysis, development and selection of equipment for mechanized arc welding, surfacing and cutting are considered. It is shown that the intuitive approach to selection and development of the semi-automatic machines can lead to non-rational solutions. Methods of system approach are suggested which allow performance of a highly objective analysis and selection of the equipment, lowering the probability of taking wrong decisions, also at the stage of development of new semi-automatic machines. Selection of modular design using a basic model as a principle allowing development of semi-automatic machines for various purposes with rational technical and service parameters, is substantiated.

It is shown that application of resistance build-up welding of steel with wire for restoration of cast iron surfaces can be technically and economically justified. For this purpose it is necessary to provide a continuous built-up layer with a guaranteed quality of its joining with the a base metal.

The reduction gear mechanisms of electrode wire feed with roller motors, widely used in mechanized arc welding equipment, are analyzed. It is shown that with the increase of the feed roller diameter the values of tractive characteristics of the mechanism become higher, service life is extended and losses in the roller feed unit are reduced. A design of the feed roller is given characterized by a unrestrained mounting of the feeding element on the driving element. This provides the invariance of the electrode wire feed rate to its diameter, fast mounting and dismantling of the feed roller in the case of its replacement.

Results of examination of peculiarities of structure and conditions of a ferrite band formation in the zone of joining ferritic-pearlitic steels during vacuum pressure welding are presented. It is shown that two types of ferrite are formed in the zone of welding which are distinguished by several features. It is established that decarburization of metal layers adjacent to the surface to be welded and thermodynamic instability of a pearlitic cementite in the high inner stress fields are the conditions which promote the formation of ferrite bands.

Diffusion bonding used for the manufacture of hyroscopic devices provides the guaranteed quality of the bonds in magnetically soft materials with high mechanical and magnetic properties, causing no changes in their initial electrophysical characteristics. Optimal parameters of the process, involving thermal cycling that allows structure and properties of the formed bonds to be controlled, are given.

Results of investigations of tribological properties of thermal spray coatings containing solid lubricants under conditions of dry friction and increased temperatures are given. Addition of solid lubricants (FemOn or CaF2) to the cast iron based coatings allows a substantial improvement in their anti-friction properties at increased temperatures. Friction coefficient of detonation coatings with FemOn at 400 oC is decreased 1.5 times and that of plasma coatings with CaF2 is decreased 3 times, as compared with friction coefficient of cast iron. Wear resistance, respectively, is increased by 30 % on the average.

The feasibility of updating the series-produced air-plasma cutting plasmatrons for their application in plasma spraying of powdered materials is shown. Method of optimizing of geometric sizes of a channel of nozzle and anode to achieve optimum values of the material utilization factor is given.
