Some features of development and design of mechanisms of pulsed feed of electrode wire are described. Serious problems are considered, arising at high accelerations in the pulse and at variable feed rates, which consist in the need to reproduce the pulse parameters, set by the electrode wire at its interaction with the feed rollers, lowering the level of mechanism vibrations, affecting the mechanical reliability of the mechanism and the conditions of conducting the welding process. Methods to improve the operating conditions of pulsed feed mechanism are demonstrated.

The procedure envisages to use the numerical methods of obtaining images by scanning electron and light microscopes. The application of optical method of determination of sizes of inclusions using a digital camera gives an opportunity to determine inclusions which sizes exceed 0.07 mm.

Deterministic-statistical mathematical model of weld shape was the basis to develop a nomogram, which allows determination of basic parameters of arc welding in a mixture of Ar + 25 % CO2 of a square-butt joint by the specified dimensions of the weld (penetration depth, reinforcement height and weld width), taking into account the size of the gap in the butt, optimization of the mode by weld dimensions or, vice versa, determination of weld dimensions with the known welding mode.

Results of metallographic examinations of different regions of the NiCr25FeAlY high-nickel alloy welded joints, made by tungsten electrode in inert gas, consumable electrode in mixture of gases and under the flux layer, are given. Susceptibility of the alloy to the formation of hot cracks was evaluated and the presence of ductility dip in it near 700 oC temperature after heat treatment was found. The relationship was established between the decreased ductility of the alloy and formation of phase and chemical heterogeneity.

A new approach is proposed to design of elements of the system of electrode wire feed, which is practically completely based on selection of materials, which perform in the most effective manner in the specific assemblies of this system, or on a combination of these materials with the design solutions for the mechanism of transfer of motion from the rollers to the wire. The above technical solutions and the above approach on the whole can be widely applied both in the currently used equipment for mechanized welding of aluminium and in the semi-automatic machines being developed.

It was established that application of electromagnetic action is an effective method of degassing welds. The presence of extremum in experimental curves will make it possible to optimize the parameters of controlling magnetic field.

New types of control systems for welding and surfacing equipment are proposed, which are based on the modular design principle. These developments incorporate engineering solutions on adjustable reversible electric drives, using mechanotronic principles of design, and a programmable controller as the higher hierarchic link.

The paper describes the possibility of construction of systems of control and regulation, powered by the welding current source voltage. A simple and effective technical solution is proposed, which allows solving both the problem of protection from high-voltage surges during the welding process, and powering the semi-automatic machine systems during short-circuiting of the arc gap. The above technical solution was implemented in a range of semi-automatic machines of modular design of PSh 107V type and is now used in industry, being independent on welding current source applied in the arc welding process.

Capabilities of systems of commutation and adjustment, based on controllable transistor-type commutators, are systematized and described. The rationality of use of these devices is shown for the solution of a complex of technical and technological problems. Conception of modular designing of devices of a programmable commutation of the welding circuit using a controllable transistor-type commutator has been suggested.
