The paper deals with the main aspects of application of a broad series of various-purpose semi-automatic machines of a unified modular design, developed from the basic model of semi-automatic machines of PSh107 type and designed for welding, surfacing and cutting. These machines were put into operation at the Tajik Aluminium Plant. Typical processes, using new semi-automatic machines, as well as their service conditions, are described. Rationality of integrated implementation of the semi-automatic machines, developed using common basic components, is substantiated and confirmed. These machines are shown to have wide capabilities in terms of technological application and further upgrading.

Principle of operation and advantages of design of a specialized torch with a six-polar electromagnetic system are described. Using the property of superposition, both axial and transverse resultant magnetic fields were induced in the zone of welding. Results of experimental investigations of the effect of the parameters of welding with electromagnetic actions on the geometrical characteristics are given.

It was established that reduction in oxygen potential of a welding flux promotes a change in the content of alloying elements in acicular ferrite and decrease in size of inclusions forming in low-alloy high-strength weld metal. In use of fluxes with a low oxygen potential the integrated deoxidation by aluminium and titanium leads to the decrease in molybdenum content in the acicular ferrite and increase in the brittle fracture resistance of the weld metal.

It is shown that the role of non-metallic inclusions in the formation of acicular ferrite is associated with the formation around non-metallic inclusions of regions of a solid solution with an increased content of nickel and manganese and different dislocation structure. Chemical composition of weld metal and different degree of a chemical inhomogeneity in the distribution of austenite-forming elements depend on the change in oxygen potential of the flux and adding of elements of deoxidizers (Al, Ti and Al + Ti) into it.

Results of experimental study of the efficiency of application of longitudinal and transverse oscillations of arc, as well as non-reversing and reversing oscillation-rotation movements of arc for control of the processes of formation and crystallization of welds in non-consumable electrode welding are presented. The nature of experimental curves obtained allowed determination of the region of optimum values of parameters of arc deflection and formulation of recommendations for practical application.

The paper presents one of the methods of construction of operating modes controllers for mechanized arc welding equipment with arc voltage feedback. It is shown that semi-automatic welding machines, operated for a long time, can be upgraded at minimum engineering and hardware costs. This allows improving the welder's labour conditions and welded joint quality.

Some known methods for selection of the main parameters of the mechanism for pulsed feed of electrode wire are analyzed. Procedure for calculation of parameters of pulsed control of electrode metal transfer, based on energy characteristics of mechanized arc and electrode wire feed processes, is considered. It is proved that at selection of the parameters of pulsed motion of electrode wire it is necessary to take into account the limitations determining the stability of the arc process with a pulsed feed.

Considered is temperature distribution along the plume length for different modes of the flow of a jet of combustion products and additives of hydrocarbon compound vapours to the mixture. Conditions of the possible use of the hydrogen-oxygen flame are described.
