Fracture surface relief peculiarities of samples cut out from different segments of the HAZ of welded joints in high-strength aluminium alloy B96 were studied by fractography analysis method. General laws of crack initiation and propagation at eccentric tension were determined. The reasons for initiation of centers of crack concentration and microcrack formation on grain boundaries were established.

The effect of energy input in flash butt welding of pipes of steel 10G2FB on ductile properties of welded joints was investigated. It is shown that impact toughness of metal of the welded joints is determined by its structural state and grain size. It is recommended to reduce the energy input of the welding process to achieve consistently high ductile properties of the welded joints, as this provides formation of fine-grained two-phase structure in the weld metal, consisting of the MAC-phase in the ferritic matrix.

Considered are structural changes in weld metal of 30KhGS type on high-strength steel joints occurring in welding and arc treatment. Under these conditions austenite transformation of hardened metal of the joint occurs at temperatures close to A1 and A3 of steel in as-delivered state. Subsequent cooling provides recovery of the hardening structure. Short-time heating in the intercritical temperature range causes formation of a substantial amount of temper ferrite and reduction of the amount of martensite formed during subsequent cooling at the expense of increase of the ferrite and bainite components. This leads to the highest decrease in hardness and increase in impact toughness of the metal. This improvement of properties and increase in crack resistance of the welded joints takes place after short-time heating to tempering temperatures.

Regularities of initiation and propagation of cracks in V96tss alloy under the conditions of off-center tension have been studied. Fractographic analysis was used to establish the causes and mechanisms of initiation of fracture sites in individual sections of welded joint HAZ after different conditions of welding heating.
